Description

This variety is a bud mutation of Gala Schniga Schnitzer, which itself is a mutation of Gala. Due to the uniformity of the fruits, intense coloration, and long shelf life, this variety is highly valued in EU markets. It is also ideal for export, as the fruits tolerate transportation well and maintain their appearance even after extended storage.

Taste

Extremely sweet, aromatic, and juicy, with a pleasant crispness and a subtle tang that provides a perfect balance of freshness and sweetness.

Fruit

The fruit is conical or slightly flattened-conical. Medium-sized, slightly larger than some Gala Schniga/Schnitzer versions. The color is deep red, covering the entire fruit surface (or almost entirely). The flesh is yellowish-light, firm, juicy, sweet, and very pleasant in flavor; excellent market quality.

Characteristics

  • Height: The tree is moderately vigorous, reaching about 2.5 to 3.5 meters at full bearing, depending on rootstock and growing conditions.
  • Canopy: Semi-open and pyramidal, well-branched, allowing even sunlight exposure and easy maintenance.
  • Trunk: Medium thickness, sturdy and stable, with smooth gray-brown bark; young trees may require support for stability.
  • Leaves: Oval, dark green and glossy, finely serrated edges, with dense foliage that contributes to efficient photosynthesis.
  • Flowers: Medium-sized, white to pink, bloom mid-early, well-pollinated in the presence of other varieties such as Golden Delicious or Fuji.
  • Root system: Moderately developed and well-branched; on weakly vigorous rootstocks, shallower roots require regular watering and support.
  • Planting and soil: Thrives best on fertile, loose, well-drained soils with slightly acidic to neutral pH (6–7); plant in autumn or early spring, with sufficient sun and moisture.

Resistance

  • Frost tolerance: Good – the variety withstands winter cold and low temperatures, but can be sensitive to late spring frosts during flowering.
  • Drought tolerance: Moderate – requires regular irrigation during dry periods to maintain large and juicy fruits.
  • Disease resistance: Moderate – susceptible to powdery mildew and fire blight; shows moderate resistance to scab with appropriate protection.
  • Pest resistance: Average – no special resistance, regular monitoring and standard protection against aphids and other pests are recommended.

Our plants regularly undergo phytosanitary and vegetative inspections, therefore we do not have diseased or infected plants.

Planting fruit seedlings

Planting is done from late October to mid-April, avoiding periods of frost and drought.

Trim the roots, then the branches into 3 to 4 rings. At the beginning of March, cut the seedlings to a height of 80 - 120 cm.

Before planting, soak the plant in water for at least 2 - 3 hours.

Dig a hole, in the previously prepared soil, measuring 60 x 60 x 50 cm for the soil (40 x 40 x 40 cm) so that the roots and part of the stem are well placed, taking care that the grafting point is outside the soil.

Place the plant in the hole and cover it with dry soil, gently press it down so that it gets well between the roots.

Fertilizer and seedling roots must not be in direct contact.

Pour with 20-30 liters of water. During periods of drought in the first year of planting, it is necessary to water young seedlings more often.

Containerized seedlings can be planted throughout the year.

*Applies to bare root seedlings.
